Tonto Dikeh: 'Growing up wasn't easy for me,' controversial actress opens up

Taking to her Instagram account recently, the singer cum actress reeled out her grass to grace story while thanking her stepmother and her doggedness as well as God for her success in life.

Controversial Nollywood actress, Tonto Dikeh has revealed how she had to struggle as an independent lady to get through life.
Taking to her Instagram account recently, the singer cum actress reeled out her grass to grace story while thanking her stepmother and her doggedness as well as God for her success in life.
Growing up life was not easy, not after I lost my mom at the age of three. Though I thank my step mom for keeping up with my rudeness and stubbornness. Sometimes, I felt like killing myself but God saw me through that stage in my life and sometimes I sit and ask God why me?" she began.
Writing further, 'At the age of twenty, I said to myself `I wouldn’t ask my dad for money- I wanted to be independent. I tried traveling to UK but I got refused at Nigerian Embassy, not because my documents were not complete but because I didn’t have the connection to pass through.
'University life was so hard for me, handouts I could not afford, I begged from hand to mouth just to eat! Sometimes, I considered going back to my dad but ego and pride wouldn’t let me. Then, all my jeans were Alaba bend-down-select. If the jeans was longer than me I would cut it to my size to make it look rugged! If I asked friends for a favour, before they helped they would ask me to do something for them in return, like cleaning their rooms, or helping  with course work,' she concluded

Muhammadu Buhari: 'Immunity or not, you'll face the law' - President speaks on corrupt leaders

Buhari acknowledged that the ‘change’ Nigerians yearning for will happen, but will be gradual given the level of damage in the past 16 years.
President Muhammadu Buhari has reinforced his government’s commitment to fight corruption and to ensure offenders face the full wrath of the law.
In a Vanguard compilation of comments and thoughts of Buhari, 48 hours before his inauguration as the new Nigeria leader, he reiterated the top issues his administration will tackle after assuming office – security, unemployment, fighting corruption, infrastructure amongst others.
He said the Goodluck Jonathan administration has grounded the Nigerian system, as he acknowledged the challenges he must face to bring about the ‘change’ Nigerians are yearning for.
He said, “the biggest message is to try and persuade the people that it is not possible to change the state of affairs now. It took 16 years to get to that state of affairs. Nigeria earned more revenue during that period than what it earned from 1914 to 1999.
“We used to have Nigeria Airways, Nigerian National Shipping Line, Nigeria Railway. Where are they now? Where is the infrastructure that is commensurate with what we earned in-between, what is on ground? That is how efficiently the PDP managed Nigeria in the last 16 years."
Buhari assured that no stone will be left unturned in the fight against corruption, noting that not even immunity clause will aid the escape of anyone who is fingered and found guilty by the law.
He stated, “we will make sure that we get cooperation from the judiciary so that people who worked against the law are prosecuted, especially those who have lost their immunity, even those who think they have immunity because this is the best way to stabilize the system.
“People must not benefit from being lawless. You can’t be in a position by virtue of the Constitution, subvert the Constitution and continue to enjoy the privileges offered by the Constitution. I don’t think that will be acceptable by the APC.
“So, whether you are in the opposition or the government, you have to behave. I think that is the way we can make progress.”

Morning inspiration: 5 ways to appreciate your love life (and stop complaining)

Changing the way you see your love life, shifting away from the bad things and knowing that life isn't perfect could help you be the best person you can be and make your relationship the best you ever had
Doesn't matter whether you're single, dating, married or divorced , your happiness totally depends on you.
Learning to appreciate your life and the people that make it beautiful would make you  a whole lot happier than you are.
Changing the way you see your love life, shifting away from the bad things and knowing that life isn't perfect could help you be the best person you can be and make your relationship the best you ever had.
Amy Spencer of YourTango lists 5 ways you can start appreciating what you have today
  1. Let the lemons in love help you appreciate the sweet stuff: If you've never had a date go wrong, you wouldn't get as many fireworks in your belly when you kiss someone who's right. And sometimes it takes a bad relationship to open your eyes to see why you really deserve a good one. In other words, thank the lemons. Because as sour as they are in the moment, they're helping you appreciate the sweet stuff.
  2. We all have a sweet spot. Find yours: Tennis players know the sweet spot on their racquet and aim for it every time. Well, we can aim for those same "sweet spots" in love, too. When are you most affectionate? That's your sweet spot for date night. When are you most patient and positive? That's your sweet spot for making plans for the future. What time of day or day of the week do you feel the most excited and hopeful? That's your sweet spot for first dates, when you're most open to having fun whatever happens. Harness the power of your sweet spot and you'll start hitting your whole love life out of the park.
  3. Ask "What can I bring to the table?": The condiments you pack in a picnic basket give you plenty of options to alter the taste of a meal, and that's how your love life is, too. If you're aggravated with your date or partner, ask yourself this: "What can I bring to the table that might change our connection?" Maybe you could be affectionate first, ask questions, or be a generous and understanding listener. Sometimes a little hot sauce can be just the thing to change the whole night.
  4. Be grateful for your differences: We groan about the differences or flaws in our partners, but thank goodness! You don't really want someone who likes the exact same food, music, books, and movies, and uses the same perfect towel-folding technique you do. The differences are what keep us learning, and the little flaws in one another are the unique parts worth loving. You know what winning in love is? Finding happiness in the floor models of love: as is. So sit back and enjoy your date or partner for who they are, full of little imperfections and big differences. Whether you're with them for two hours or twenty years, the differences in love are what make life most interesting.
  5. Hey, you learn something new in love every day: If you had a bad date or a bad fight today, at least you'll know how to do things differently tomorrow. No rough moment in relationships is for naught if you gain wisdom and insight from the experience.

REVEALED: The real reason behind fuel scarcity in Nigeria

Chairman of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), Sunny Nkpe disclosed this on Monday, May 25, 2015, during a telephone interview with Evergist

According to the Chairman of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), Sunny Nkpe, Nigeria is constantly plagued with fuel crises because it’s not using its refineries.
Nkpe disclosed this on Monday, May 25, 2015, during a telephone interview with Evergist.
The IPMAN Chairman stated further that Nigeria’s refineries can produce 50-60% of the fuel the country needs but they’ve been shut down for more than a year.
“We have refineries that can refine 450,000 barrels of crude oil per day, that’s millions of litres of refined product,” he said.
“Why are we not using the refineries? Let them use the refineries,” Nkpe said.
An industry insider, who chose to remain anonymous, told Evergist that the relevant government agencies refuse to use the local refineries to produce the country’s needs because there’s much more money to be fraudulently gotten from importing the product.
“They are knowingly boycotting the refineries,” she said. “They make more money with importation due to corruption and fraud,” she added.
The fuel subsidy regime in Nigeria has come to be viewed as a huge scam, a notion buttressed by the 2014 arrest of 121 suspects, who were believed to have benefited from it, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The current scarcity is said to be an artificial creation of the marketers in attempts to force the government to pay the remaining subsidy debt it owes them before a new administration is inaugurated on May 29, 2015.
Meanwhile, the marketers have called of their strike and are expected to begin supplying product nationwide to end the scarcity.
However, until the real problems causing the scarcity are resolved, Nigerians are left asking how long it will be before the next crisis occurs

Sad Death: Woman bleeds to death after childbirth due to fuel scarcity

The fuel scarcity being experienced in the country has claimed the life of a young woman who bled to death because the hospital could not go out to source for blood for her transfusion.

The lingering Fuel scarcity in the country is gradually turning into a disaster for some families who have had to contend with preventable loss of lives.
A twitter user, Tunde Aluko MFR, took to the social media to announce the demise of a young woman who bled to death during childbirth because the hospital where she put to bed said they did not have fuel in their generating sets and in their vehicles to run around and get blood that could be transfused into her.
See what he tweeted:
"A church member lost his wife early hrs of today after child birth, she bled to death, useless hospital said no FUEL to rush to get blood.
Young man, early 30's, 2 young children already plus a baby now, wife is dead because FUEL, who bleeds to death in 2015?"
Who is to blame for this sad loss of life?

Joey's Monday Musings: Help! Nigeria is shutting down

The country is shutting down, one business at a time, one institution at a time. Fuel scarcity is biting, and the effects form a deadly ripple of system failures, closures and dysfunction.
We have never been in this zone in over 2 decades. The country is shutting down, one business at a time, one institution at a time. Fuel scarcity is biting, and the effects form a deadly ripple of system failures, closures and dysfunction.
For a huge part of last week, several airline operators announced plans to significantly alter their normal flight schedules, blaming it on their inability to get aviation fuel for their aircrafts.
“Due to the current scarcity of Jet-A1 fuel being experienced in the country, we regret to inform you that all our flights will not operate regularly as scheduled,” one of Nigeria’s premier arlines, Aero Contractors, informed its customers on May 22. “We regret any inconveniences the changes will cause. All efforts are being made to ameliorate the situation and revert to our regular flight schedule.”
At the airports in Abuja and Lagos, thousands of travellers were stranded as most airlines cancelled their scheduled flights.
In a similar message on Sunday, the management of GTBank issued notice of early closure of its branches nationwide.
“The current shortage of petroleum products in the country has limited our ability to supply diesel to all our branches, in order to continue normal branch operations.
“Due to this, we unavoidably have to close our branches nationwide at 1 pm, from tomorrow Monday, 25th May 2015,” the bank said in the text message.
Both MTN and Airtel, two of Nigeria’s major telecommunications operators, have all made notices to their customers, informing them that their services might be disrupted till the fuel supply situation improves.
The text message from Airtel management to its customers on Sunday read: “Dear Valued Customer, this is to inform you that due to nationwide fuel crisis our services may experience some strain. We are doing everything possible to manage the situation. Thank you for understanding.”
In its own notice to customers, MTN announced that the intractable fuel shortage might force it to shut down some of its base-stations that are powered by diesel-operated generators.
“The management of MTN states that the current diesel scarcity in most parts of the Nigeria is posing threat to quality of services and the ability to optimally operate the network,” the company said in a statement released on its Twitter handle.
“MTN’s available reserves of diesel are running low and the company must source for significant quantity of diesel in the very near future to prevent a shut down of services across Nigeria. If diesel supplies are not available within the next 24 hours the network will be seriously degraded and customers will feel the impact.”
Car dealer, Cosharis Motors, has also warned buyers of its new BMW cars to desist from riding in them, until fuel is available, apparently in other to avoid using adulterated fuel purchased from the black market to run the vehicle that may cause serious mechanical damage in the cars. Experts say the new BMW cars have zero tolerance for adulterated fuel.
Throughout last week, as the fuel scarcity took its toll on businesses, parents experienced difficulties transporting their wards to school and back, as no filling station opened for business following the continued strike action of oil workers.
How did we get here? How did we allow a country with the most thriving economy on the continent to grind to its knees. The answer is simple:
The oil marketers and the outgoing government continue to bicker in their unending blame game over unpaid subsidy claims.
The marketers, under the umbrella groups of Major Marketers Association of Nigeria (MOMAN), the Depot and Petroleum Marketers Association (DAPMA) and the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), have continued to accuse government of refusing to pay outstanding claims of about N200 billion.
But the outgoing Minister of Finance, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, on Saturday accused the marketers of blackmail, claiming that government had agreed with marketers that N159 billion would be paid after a reconciliation by a committee constituted for that purpose.

Meanwhile, another systems collapse has been reported at Shiroro Power Plant on Sunday amid the worsening energy crisis.
With the effects of the fuel scarcity increasing, the price of transportation is at its peak. People pay 4 times the normal rates to move between points.
Nigeria is gradually shutting down. All our systems rely on crude oil for power generation, as does most parts of the world. The mood in the air is one of despair and anger. This anger has a direction – the outgoing government.scarci
Nigerians, a hugely docile lot, are on the verge of a meltdown. One can only suffer deprivation and hardship for so long before a reaction is inspired.
In this case, I fear the reaction might be worse than the scarcity..

Buruji Kashamu: Senator-elect placed under house arrest, threatens suicide

Kashamu is said to have threatened to kill himself rather than surrender and be extradited to the US.

Senator-elect, Buruji Kashamu has now been placed under house arrest following an invasion of his home by officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) earlier today, May 23, 2015.
Kashamu is said to have threatened to kill himself rather than surrender and be extradited to the US, according to Sahara Reporters.
The NDLEA officials have surrounded Kashamu’s home on Oladipo Omotosho Street in Lekki Phase 1, Lagos in a bid to arrest and extradite him to face drug charges levelled against him.
Kashamu’s home has also been cordoned off with crime scene tape by the security agents.
However, the NDLEA officials have reportedly been unable to arrest the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain due to his suicide threat and their lack of a warrant.
Therefore, Kashamu will be forced to remain inside his home until Monday, May 25, when a court order authorizing his arrest can be obtained.
Kashamu’s lawyers are also planning to challenge the extradition plans in court his media aide, Austin Oniyokor has revealed.
“We have confirmed that they do not have a warrant of arrest, just as the office of the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice has said that it did not give any order to carry out this illegality,” Oniyokor said via a statement.
He also accused PDP chieftain, Bode George of being behind the plot.
“We urge all well meaning Nigerians to prevail on NDLEA, Chief George and his wife to toe the path of the rule of law and follow due process. Nigeria is not a Banana Republic! The United States(US) being the bastion of democracy, the rule of law and due process should not lend itself to this kind of illegality,” the statement added.
Kashamu had earlier alleged that former President, Olusegun Obasanjo was plotting to abduct him and extradite him illegally to the US during his inauguration on May 29.

Personal development: 5 simple but important things to avoid for better productivity

Why don't you try a fresher angle, re-evaluate and go for your goals with a newer approach that will help you accomplish those things you feel is impossible
Recent research suggests that most people who set goals regularly for themselves rarely achieve up to 50 per cent of them.
This could be frustrating  but the truth is instead of sticking to those goals which may be unrealistic , why don't you try a fresher angle, re-evaluate and go for your goals with a newer approach that will help you accomplish those things you feel is impossible.
Compiled by Beliefnet, here are 5 things to do when setting goals for yourself:
  1. Don’t set unrealistic goals: Do you want to read more? Instead of trying for (and likely failing at) a goal of a chapter a day, commit to 10 pages a day or just single page a day. Determined to start a blog that you’ve been thinking about for years? Set a realistic goal, say one blog entry twice a month for starters. Looking to lose 30 pounds? Start small; try to lose one pound a week for five weeks and resolve to walk as much as possible and then slowly progress from there. The idea is to lower the bar initially to ensure early success and create momentum. For, as Newton’s First Law of Motion tells us – a body in motion, stays in motion! All you need to do is get started.
  2. Don’t Tweet and Facebook every goal, but don’t try to go it alone either: Contrary to popular opinion, telling the world about your goals has very little value and can actually backfire. Instead, enlist a close (and trusted) friend to hold you accountable. Tell your friend or significant other your plan to read 10 pages a day, three times a week, and then ask them to check in regularly to hold you accountable. Or, you and your friend could do resolve to start a new routine together like going to Zumba or to the gym.
  3. Don’t let your life slip away in 15-minute increments!: Despite technology tools we only dreamt about 30 years ago, productivity in the workplace hasn’t increased. Think about it, if you spend 15 minutes checking email 3 or 4 times a day, check Facebook twice, Twitter and a few other sites, that’s three hours a day down the drain! And, here is the kicker: Because those 15-minute interludes have become habits, chances are you do them daily and with little awareness. Simply put, it’s become a habit to waste time. If, instead, you just invested a mere 15 minutes a day into any specialized subject, reading about it (consuming all the best books you could find on the matter) and writing about it, over the course of five, years you’d become an expert on the subject matter equivalent to that of a Ph.D.
  4. Don’t worry about the “streak,” consistency is key: The key to successfully developing any habit is about being consistent—over time. There’s no magical number of days it takes to develop a habit and the behavior doesn’t have to be performed on consecutive days. The key is to remain consistent over time and, eventually, the more a behavior or thought is experienced, the more likely it will be developed into a new habit. As the old Chinese proverb states, “Habits are cobwebs at first and cables at last.”
  5. Don’t forget to track your progress: What gets measured, gets done. People who succeed at positive habit development are those who employ a system and track their behaviors. This works for thought and behavior habits . There are some great free apps to try, or you can even use this free habit- tracking template here. If you’re not tracking, you’re slacking!

Personal development: Feeling down? Here are 6 things you can do to lift your spirit up

It could just be that you are just feeling blue for no reason at all
As humans, we don't always have happy days which may be caused by internal or external factors.
It maybe as a result of a fight with your loved one, a friend or a colleague or some random person inside the public bus you take everyday, or internal factors like not having enough sleep due to insomnia caused by worry from family problems. Maybe it could be that you are just feeling blue for no reason at all.
Compiled by Beliefnet, here are things you can do to pull yourself back up from that sad state you are in:
  1. Take Care of Yourself: This may seem like an obvious thing, but try your best to get a good night’s sleep and eat healthy foods when you’re hungry. Science shows that both of these things can have a huge positive impact on both your mood and your blood sugar. Consider setting an earlier bedtime than usual and stick to it. Make some nourishing snacks that you can easily grab instead of the sugary junk food. Fresh fruit, a piece of cheese, some cut up vegetables, homemade soup, whole grain crackers; they’re all quick and easy options to consider.
  2. Choose to Be Happy: Abraham Lincoln is quoted as saying, “Folks are usually about as happy as they make up their minds to be.” There’s a lot of power in those words. Could you try it for a day? It may be a “fake it until you make it” proposition. A lot of research from behavioral psychology reports that when we intend to be happy, our thoughts and actions follow suit. We actually become happier. Try saying things to yourself such as “I want to feel better.” Or, “I know what I need in order to be happier and I’m going to do it.”
  3. What’s Comforting to You?: If you’re going through a tough time, think about some healthy comforts that will make you feel better. Take a bike ride or go for a walk in nature. Treat yourself to a lunch at your favorite restaurant. Listen to some upbeat music. Call a friend. Watch a funny movie. Take a nap. Read a good book. The release from stress will add to your happiness quotient.
  4. Make an Action Plan: Can you identify what’s making you unhappy? If so, you have a good chance at reversing it. What action can you take today or this week that will make you feel better and reverse the trend? You don’t have to figure out a whole plan for resolving your conflicts, simply taking some steps in the right direction will boost your good feelings.
  5. Trust Your Gut: Take a quiet moment before you go to bed tonight and tune into yourself. Ask, “What’s bothering me?” Followed by, “What can I do to feel better?” Listen for the wisdom within. You may receive it via a feeling or a knowing. It may come as an “aha” moment or as an inner whisper. If the answer brings you peace or simply makes you feel better, you’ve got it!
  6. This Too Shall Pass: What do you say to yourself when you’re going through a tough time? Beating yourself up is not helpful! Try saying things that are soothing to your heart and mind. Examples are, “It is what it is, let me just accept it and move on.” “I let go and let God.” “All I can do is put one foot in front of the other and keep moving.” “It will all work out.” And finally, “This too shall pass.”

According to the estate Chairman, the attack was the second in the estate in as many weeks. On that fateful day, the robbers were said to have gained entrance into the estate by scaling the fence around 2 am where they operated for two hours without interruption, moving from one building to the other.
Before the robbers left, they had inflicted machete cuts on a man, flogged another with belt before slamming pestle on his head.
One of residents said:
"After robbing a particular apartment, they would lock the family in a room. They apparently did not want them to call for help or alert other neighbours. Then they would move to another apartment. We heard they robbed four buildings."
