In Abuja: African First Ladies Peace Mission: Patience Jonathan hands over presidency

Mrs Jonathan's tenure was supposed to lapse in July 2015, but she called an emergency summit of the mission in Abuja on Friday, where she handed over.

The First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan has handed over her duty as the African First Ladies Peace Mission (AFLPM) as the Jonathan administration nears handing over day.
‘Mama Peace’ as she is fondly called handed over to the First Lady of Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic, Jadiya Hamdi Mohamed at the 8th AFLPM Summit of the mission held in  Abuja on Friday, May 15.
Mrs Jonathan became the missions’ president in 2012 and her tenure was supposed to lapse in July 2015, but she called an emergency summit of the mission, where she handed over.
However, it is believed that Dame Patience made the handing over move to prevent Aisha Buhari, wife of the President-elect from replacing her as President the AFLPM president.
The president’s wife has since dismissed the claims, describing it as ‘mischievous’ on the party of those peddling it.
