Various reactions have trailed the recent Xenophobia-induced killings of
foreign nationals in South Africa with newly elected party, APC, the
latest to voice outrage over the incident.
In a memorandum handed to the South African
embassy in Lagos on Wednesday, All Progressives Congress (APC) party
officials demanded that the South African Government take quick action
against the Xenophobic killings going on in South Africa.
According
to South African news portal, eNCA, the party officials along with
members of civil society groups made the demands in reaction to the
killings currently going on all over the southern African nation.
An official of the party, Tolu Adesanya,
also said that if the South African authorities refused to take proper
action, Nigeria will shut down South African businesses that are
currently operating in Nigeria.
“We actually
handed a letter to the South African embassy yesterday, making them
aware that we are not happy with what is going on in South Africa.
Should there be any more attacks, we are going to shut down South
African businesses in Nigeria. That is MTN, Multi Choice, Shoprite
etc.,” Adesanya said on Thursday.
South
African businesses have vast major technological holdings in Nigeria
and closure of such businesses could reflect negatively on their
fortunes for a long time.
